Please pass along the following information to any high school seniors you know who are applying to Georgia Tech and may qualify to apply for the President's Scholarship. The big changes this year are the lowered SAT limit (1400 for all students [32 ACT]) and the changes in stipends, which only affect the entering class of 1997, not current students at GT. =========================================================================== President's Scholarship Information The President's Scholarship is Georgia Tech's premier merit-based scholarship. High school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and strong leadership proficiency, and show promise of continuing such performance in college and beyond, are invited to apply. To qualify for the scholarship competition, a student must have scored at least 1400 on the SAT I or 32 (composite) on the ACT. The highest math and verbal from any combination of tests will count for the SAT total. The President's Scholarship awards approximately seventy incoming freshmen per year with stipends at the following levels: 1997 Award Amounts Georgia Non-Georgia President's level $5,000/year $9,900/year Institute level $1,500/year $4,800/year (Award amounts given are for freshmen entering Summer or Fall Quarter, 1997. Awards will be reduced as necessary to limit students' total financial award packages to the cost of education.) The scholarships are renewable for twelve quarters or until the completion of the first undergraduate degree, whichever comes first, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and involvement in campus or community activities. Recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) while averaging 15 credit hours per quarter.
