A brief synopsis of the opera follows:

			Albert Herring

"This clever spoof of Victorian pomposity opens with lady Billows and
her high-minded committee trying to find a suitable virgin to be
crowned May Queen. To their dismay, there is none to be found, and
so, to teach the girls a lesson, they elect a new May *King*--the
reluctant Albert Herring. Britten is at his wry comic best in this
tale of lost innocence. One of this century's leading composers, he
has fashioned a delightful comedy, where puritanical values and witty
dialogue create an entertaining evening for everyone."
