I guess I have to take partial blame for this being one of those smiling faces on the other site of the drive through window. I have had customers tell me that we are one of the fastest drive throughs in town but we could be faster. We're the slowest right around 5:00 shift change when some of the night shift are still stuck in traffic on Peachtree Rd. >Then you have the problem that people go through drive thrus cause they >are quicker not just cause you don't have to get out of your car, but >because of reasons you mentioned the restaurants are already mandated >to serve the drive thru customers first. This is true. 75% (rough guess) of our sales comes from the drive through and it is assumed that those that come through the drive through are more in a hurry then those who come inside. Furthermore, the drive through is timed and our performance is judged by average service time. That's why it's so frustrating when a customer who has already received his order lags behind at the window in order to get "situated". Sometimes when I ask them "Is there anything further we can help you with" they shoot back "what's the problem there is nobody behind me?". One manager even tried to get such customers to move by pretending to take another order. Of course this doesn't mean that walk ins should be ignored. That's my father's biggest complaint with fast food restaurants. He doesn't use drive throughs and he finds it frustrating to stand at the counter for 20 minutes watching the crew push bag after bag of food out the drive through window. >Though I wonder if this legislation passed, what would Checkers and >Checkers wanna bes do? 100,000 quatloos says that Checkers did not even cross the mind of any member of the city council when they were considering this asinine law. They would have to close their drive through windows. Customers would have to park their cars and walk up to the window. Since many people would leave their engines idling that will cause more pollution. -- Ron Ritzman http://i.am/supertroll
