Typical large grocery chains set prices 20-30% above manufacturer costs (lower with loss-leader sale items), and they get high volume discounts from the manufacturers. Your friend would likely be buying at prices well above what Kroger pays until they got to be very large. > I know college students have neither much money nor much time, so > it wouod be ideal for them. I started to do a trial order from Kroger's service, Shoppers' Express (?), sometime last year, but I got partway in and realized they didn't offer a lot of the items we routinely buy, so I would have to go to the store anyway. Same with Peapod, plus they charge a "membership" fee, whether you use the service or not. Neither is available in Atlanta at this time, so my guess is others were similarly unimpressed.
