Mr. Covington,

First let me say that the people who news-bombed uga.tech are close
friends of mine.  They had no intent to disrupt the activities and posts
of uga.tech.  According to the newsfeed they had received, there was no
activity in the newsgroup.  Thus, they saw no problem with what they were
doing.  Unfortunately, the newsfeed they were getting wasn't complete, and
the newsgroup, as I'm sure you know, was active.  They are VERY sorry for
what they did.  They publicly posted an apology (if you haven't seen it,
let me know and I'll e-mail you a copy.)  They are also in quite a bit of
trouble with our OIT and College of Computing.  They've been miserable
since they found out that the newsgroup actually was active.  They already
feel bad enough, your previous post was quite unnecessary.

I looked at it as an extension of the Tech/UGA rivalry into the internet.
There have been more illegal activities in the history of the rivalry than
this little incident.  Forcing someone to change majors/schools over a
prank like this isn't justified.

Of course, that's just my opinion.  I could be wrong.
