Howdy Folks !

I am looking for recommendations for really good restaurants
in and around Atlanta that offer a good selection of vegetarian
food. They don't need to be purely vegetarian, but I have found
most restaurants to offer a couple of veggie dishes at best.

So if anyone has some recommendations, please forward to
taddy@cc.gatech.edu, or post to the net.

Thanks a bunch.

Rajesh.

A favorite restaurant of my friends that has vegitarian dishes is
the Flying Biscuit. The Virtuous Vegan pie is very good and
for those who do eat dairy products you can have the non-virtuous
version that includes melted cheese and sour cream. My favorite
is the Love Cakes entree (cornmeal and blackbean patties) which
are either topped with feta cheese, red onion spears, and a bit
of sour cream and is accompanied with a biscuit and a salad of
field greens (with some sort of walnut vinagerette dressing).
There is a breakfast version of the Love Cakes that comes with
eggs on top (the Eggceptional Eggs). There is an amazingly
well spiced Tofu scramble that is a treat. Prices are in the
$6 per entree range (though some of the specials can got up to $15).

For caffeine addicted smokers on the run they also have
the Bohemian Breakfast. A cup of coffee, an Espresso Bar
(espresso flavored brownie type thing) and two cigs to go
(you can't eat it there because they don't allow smoking).

Try:

Veggieland (all VEGAN) - good food, lacks atmosphere, Pharr Rd.
(also one on Roswell Rd. in Sandy Springs)

Cafe Sunflower - great food, nice, somewhat pricey but worth it,
Roswell Rd. in Sandy Springs (all vegetarian)

Soul Vegetarian - good food, unique, 2 locations I think (the only
one I've been to claims itself as No. 2)
			 (all vegetarian)

Rainbow <something> - near Emory, a store with a small place

Nuts & Berries (actually I think it is called Brookhaven Cafe but
since it's adjacent to a store called Nuts & Berries..) - very
close to Ogelthorpe University, good (not entirely
vegetarian), go for brunch on the weekend!

Of course staples for me (a vegetarian) include the wonderful and cheap:

	Tortillas	&
	EATS

There are surely more that I can't think of now. Oh, and also, don't
shop at Kroger (or Cub or whatever), go to Return to Eden, a wonderful
vegetarian supermarket (it's large) at Cheshire and Briarcliff (close
to Emory) and next to Tara (movie theatre).

I've never been to Eat your Vegetables. It's (in reviews, the AJC,
Creative Loafing, &c.) always referred to as a vegetarian restaurant, but
I've heard it's far from it. Is it any good?

It is in Little 5 points...its OK but not execptional...there is fish and
chicken on the menu as well as 5 or 6 vegetarian dishes.

There is a vegan soul food restaurant somewhere off of Ponce de Leon, I'm not
sure exactly where it is but it is listed in the World Guide to
Vegetarianism....It is definately worth checking out.

Bon Appetit

EYV used to be one of my favorite restaurants. They occasionally had
very good specials. Over the last two years, though, I think their
quality in both food and service has gone downhill.

It's called Soul Vegetarian, and it is very good. It's on N. Highland between Ponce
and North Ave. Also, don't forget that there's a slew of really good Indian
restaurants in town, w/ lotsa great veggie dishes.

Enjoy!

I can only think of a few more that didn't make the above list:

R. Thomas	On peachtree, south of Peachtree Battle: Vegan & Burgers
La Fontina[sp?] Lots of good cuban/hispanic veggies/paella[sp?],
also has meat. In Little 5 Points.
Sevenanda	For groceries in Little 5 Points--IMHO nothing better.

That's La Fonda. Haven't been there in a while, but the only veggie dish
I recall is their grilled veggies. (There may be others.) Good paella &
chips.

Also on P'tree beside Garden Hills cinema.

La Fonda has an excellent Veggie Paella, grilled veggies, black beans &
rice (vegetarian version), and lots of good veggie salads/side dishes.
The L5P location is one of my favorite Atlanta restaurants.

A friend and I were talking about this restaurant the other day, and he said
that he asked them once if they used chicken stock in their rice and they said
yes. Does anyone know if that's still true?
