I have yet to check this with the Olympic/Paralympic planning office for validity, but according to GTPD and ACOG officialos with whom I have spoken: WEAR OF THE BADGE IS REQUIRED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. According to officials with whom I have spoken, people who come to the Tech Campus without their ACOG or Research Security-issued badge will be directed to leave. This appears to be an implementation of the badge restrictions scheduled for July 1. To repeat, WEAR OF THE BADGE IS REQUIRED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. -- Brennan T. Wearing of a badge is NOT required until July 1. It is recommended that those who have them go ahead and wear them, but an ID will get you onto the campus until 12:01am on July 1. If you don't have your badge on July 1 but were submitted for accreditation, had your picture taken and hand geometry captured and were not contacted by security officials regarding problems with accrediting you, your name will be on a list at the North Avenue and G-88 (University Apartments) Entry Control Points on Monday (and until badges are issued). You must have an ID of some sort with you - Driver's Liscense or Tech ID are preferred. __________________________ Ashley Gigandet Olympic/Paralympic Planner Georgia Tech - Home of the 1996 Olympic Village "Whether we build it or not, they're coming!"

In an article that will shortly be cancelled, Brennan T. The report earlier today was made upon confirmation of repeated assertions of Boxing Venue security officials with a dispatcher at the Georgia Tech Police Department. I have learned not to trust what ACOG security guards say over the last couple of weeks, but this is the first time in my three- plus years at WREK News that something that GTPD has told me has proved inaccurate. According to Fred Dolder at the GT Olympic/Paralympic planning office, the same identification procedures (show GT ID or show photo ID, stating "I am a Georgia Tech employee") should still be in effect. Any guard who tells you otherwise should be politely asked/instructed to go up the chain. For what it's worth, I started investigating this after several folks I know (mostly WREK staffers) were turned away starting around 11 last night. They did follow the procedures above. They were told in no uncertain terms to take a hike, in the presence of a GTPD officer. I thank my former Graduate Senate colleague, Kevin Almeroth, for the earlier posted tip. And, in case anyone needs a reminder, wear of the badge will be required effective midnight Sunday. Gosh, I'm humbled. My first retraction in eight years in collegiate media at Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech. Ah, well, at least I'm faster than The Technique :) -- Brennan T.
