I didn't want to jump into this but i have to admit i know far too much
about gothic music.  The word gothic has been around for quite a
while.  But it was first noted to be used as applied to music in the
middle of 1978 by two individuals.  I won't tell the full story here
but basically goth was first accredited to Joy Division and shortly
afterwards to Southern Death Cult and Bauhaus.  Siouxsie, like all the
bands just mentioned, started off as punk bands in 1977-79 England and
when punk died, these particular bands evolved into gothic.  If you really
want to know anything more about gothic, just ask me or do a web search on
'gothic' and you will actually find a couple of faq's.
