How do I make bash emulate the ksh 'r' history mechanism? The histchars variable description sounds like it would grab any r not just if it is the first character on the line. bash has saved me from the dreaded csh but it still uses !'s. In ksh r is the builtin alias is r='fc -e -' David Becker beckerd@cs.unc.edu
