bash-1.12 problem on sco unix 3.2

I am trying to install bash-1.12 on i386 running SCO unix 3.2. I was able to
compile successfully after adding the following line to the SCO unix section :

#   define REQUIRED_LIBRARIES -lPW

When I tried to see if the compile worked with ./bash, I get an initial
prompt bash$. After that it will execute any command once and I do not get
the prompt back (it seems to hang after the 1st command).

I compiled the code with gcc-2.2.2 and observed the same problem running the
code.

Also, I was able to compile and try out the code on a SUN3 without any problem.

Any ideas ?
