Hash file is generated too large

I tried generating the hash file with gnuchess -c 22, as suggested in
the man page. This is supposed to make a 4 MB hash file, but instead
it wrote approx. 16 MB until the file system filled up. Did I do
something wrong, or is this a bug? (This is patchlevel 56 on SunOS
4.1.1, compiled with gcc 2.2.2, CFLAGS= -O2 -funroll-loops
-traditional-cpp # gnu cc 2.00 on SunOS.)

Another question: is there a way for the user to choose a different
book file than the (library) file name that has been compiled in?
