You can now get Emacs 18.59 by anonymous ftp from pub/gnu/emacs-18.59.tar.Z on prep.ai.mit.edu. Compressed diffs from version 18.58 are in pub/gnu/emacs-18.58-18.59.diffs.Z. They are about 500K. The files first placed on prep had a trivial but important: they gave the version number as just 18.59 instead of 18.59.0 which it should be. The result was that the Emacs built from them says it is version 18.60. If you got the tar file or the diffs from prep before this announcement, please get it again; or, if you know how to fix version.el to say `18.59.0', just do that by hand. Please discard all copies of the broken distribution. 18.59 is a bug-fix release; it fixes several system-independent bugs plus problems specific to Iris, SCO, HP/UX and NeXT systems and others. Emacs 18.59 is available on distribution tapes from the FSF. Please order a tape if you will, because tape orders bring the FSF most of the funds it uses to pay programmers and tech writers. Ask gnu@prep.ai.mit.edu for the order form, or contact the FSF office: Free Software Foundation 675 Mass Ave Cambridge, MA 02139 USA 1-617-876-3296 The order form is also in pub/gnu/GNUinfo/DISTRIB on prep.
