emacs/sh-or-bash/rsh strangeness

#1897

I get a strange interaction in a shell window, running sh or bash. If
I rsh to another machine (including my own), then when I exit the
remote shell, I get a "Connection closed" message, but the rsh doesn't
exit. If I tickle the rsh with, say, ~ RET, it then reports its ding
and (another) "Connection closed". Under csh, the close happens right
away fine.

Looks like bash is managing to emulate one more thing right, but it
looks like a possible bug ...

Details: Sun 3/50 OS3.5, bash 1.04, emacs 18.55;

  -rwxr-xr-x  1 root        57344 Nov 10  1987 /bin/sh
  -rwsr-xr-x  1 root        48592 Nov 10  1987 /usr/ucb/rsh

Any ideas?
