I think there should definitely be at least an option to make quoted-insert overwrite in overwrite-mode. I only ever used overwrite-mode when I'm editing binaries (eg to change string constants without recompiling), and I need to preserve the length of the file exactly. It is a pain to have to remember to delete an extra character when I insert a trailing \0. Tom -- tromey@cns.caltech.edu "In a riddle whose answer is chess, what is the only prohibited word?"
