Format problem in Mathematica mode

I am trying to get Mathematica mode to work properly. When in math mode,
I try to evaluate 2 + 2 and get the following (comes in buffer exactly
as shown):

In[1]:= 2 + 2

Out[1]= = 4

	  =

In[2]:=

Now, I see that the expression is being given to Mathematica and the
output is taken properly; however, the formatting of the output is not
done properly. Is there an obvious problem/solution I am missing - I do
not wish to hack a piece of elisp code written by D.LaLiberte for
obvious reasons.
