Printing from emacs

I spent some time trying to solve a printing problem, so I thought
that I will share the findings.

I wanted to use postscript formatters for my printouts from emacs.

I have two scripts emacs-print and gnus-print.

emacs-print is used in my .emacs:

(setq lpr-command "~/emacs/lisp/emacs-print")

The content of the shell is:

#!/bin/sh
a2ps $! | lpr -Plp1

When I want to print from gnus (a news reader within emacs), I call:

xemacs -l gnus-ini.el -f gnus


In gnusini.el I have (amongst others):
...
(setq lpr-command "~/emacs/lisp/gnus-print")
...


The content of the shell is:

#!/bin/sh
mp -n $! | lpr -Plp1
