Another 5.32beta problem...

I'll try to get the details on this one correct :)

If you start up VM (5.32Beta) with vm-startup-with-summary set to t
(full-screen summary), or if you use C-x 1 in the summary window so
your message window disappears, then:

If you hit SPC the message window appears but it has already paged
down in the message some distance, instead of starting at the top of
the message.

After a bit of poking with the debugger, the problem appears to be
this:

  * In vm-page.el:vm-scroll-forward the variable was-invisible is set
    to t

  * The statement:

      (if (or mp-changed was-invisible)
          (vm-howl-if-eom)

    is executed, so vm-howl-if-eom is called.

  * In vm-page.el:vm-howl-if-eom we see:

      (save-excursion
        (save-window-excursion
          (let ((next-screen-context-lines 0))
            (condition-case ()
                (progn (select-window w) (scroll-up nil) nil)
              (error t)))))

What happens is the (scroll-up nil) causes the message window to
scroll up, but the (save-window-excursion) for some reason doesn't
restore the window back to where it was previously, so it stays
scrolled down; the only thing I can think of is that the message
buffer is not visible in a window when the (save-window-excursion) is
invoked, and so it doesn't get stored as it should.

Anyone have a fix?

                                                                paul
