incorrect display when switching buffers back to INBOX with 18.57

Our systems people recently upgraded our emacs version to 18.57 (it
used to be 18.55). Now I noticed that when I reply to a message in my
INBOX (using vm 5.32 beta), and switch buffers back from the reply,
the INBOX buffer is displayed incorrectly. Basically, part of the
first message in the INBOX is displayed, with various headers that are
not normally displayed. If I press any keys (C-n, cursor, etc), the
display immediately reverts to the current message and looks correct.
This never happened with emacs 18.55. My system is a Sun SPARCstation
1, SunOS 4.1.1, and emacs pops up its own xterm (but the same thing
happens with a dumb terminal). With the old version of emacs,
X-windows support must not have been compiled in, since it ran in
whatever xterm window I was using.

More exactly, this is what I did:

	emacs -q &

Note I do not have a .vm file. Then in the emacs window,

	M-x load-f[tab] emacs/lisp/vm.e[tab][ret]

This is vm 5.32, which I compiled with the new byte compiler.

	M-x vm[ret]

Before this, in a previous emacs session, I sent myself some test mail
and so I have two test messages and nothing else in my INBOX. The
second message is the current message, which is displayed now.

	r[ret]

A reply buffer comes up, replacing the INBOX buffer.

	C-x b[ret]

Now I am looking at the INBOX buffer, but I see both messages in the
file, not just the second one, and with all of the headers displayed,
even ones that are normally suppressed. Now if I type C-n (the message
is several lines long and I'm not at the bottom) the second message is
displayed normally.

I'm not sure whether this is a vm bug, an emacs bug, or something
else, but it only has happened to me with vm so far. It may also
happen in non-INBOX folders, but I haven't tried. Since it is easily
fixed by typing C-n, it is not too serious, but it does strike me as a
bug. Any ideas? vm is very nice otherwise...
