Unix represents a bunch of different operating systems which are not binary compatible with each other. However, VMS is a single operating system, and all machines which run it are binary compatible with each other. Why distribute Emacs for VMS as source code, with patches. It seems to make more sense to distribute the executable. Is there any way to get the executable for Emacs incorporating these patches that have been recently advertised, either through FTP or DECnet copy? Bill Thompson
