To all those who responded to my question about attaching to an emacs process from subprocesses...Thanks. The problem was that we had an OLD (i.e 4 years or so) version of emacs - which was built before several crucial VMS modifications were done. That version was capable of suspending (we did know about kepteditor.com...) but it was only capable of reattaching to the particular process that spawned it. If you shelled out to a subprocess, and attempted to attach to emacs, you'd get a new one (and then there'd be two ;-). The solution was to install a newer version - which turned out to be remarkably painless (especially compared to the original installation where I had to build from source using GCC when the code was set up to use VMS C - which was decidedly nonstandard at the time. OWWW!). Again, I'd like to thank all those who responded - especially Hal Brand for doing most of the work, and for providing the necessary files in an extremely convenient form. Regards, John -- jgh1@vm1.cis.pitt.edu Give me chastity and continency, but do not give them yet.
