The compiler on the SGI iris4d under Irix 4.0.5 will not unexec temacs
properly.  The compiler version is 3.0 (it was 2.1.3).  The version of
epoch I am compiling is 4.0p2.  I have access to a 2.1.3 machine, and
epoch compiles, unexecs and runs fine.

Under dbx, I found that temacs dies at the line below in unexmips.c:
    hdr.aout.bss_start = hdr.aout.data_start + hdr.aout.dsize;
->  rdata_section->s_size = data_start - DATA_START;
    data_section->s_vaddr = data_start;
This is because this preceding section of code produces a (nil) in
rdata_section: 
  CHECK_SCNHDR(text_section,  _TEXT,  STYP_TEXT);
  CHECK_SCNHDR(init_section,  _INIT,  STYP_INIT);
  CHECK_SCNHDR(rdata_section, _RDATA, STYP_RDATA);
  CHECK_SCNHDR(data_section,  _DATA,  STYP_DATA);

I found that the rdata section is not missing, but is actually
following the data section (i = 3).  However, simply swapping the last two
statements above does not fix the problem.  It does dump an epoch, but
the executable dies immediately.  

I have called in a bug report with SGI, which is not yet resolved, but
I thought you should know that others may have the same problem.
