I've been having a problem with byte-compilation. There's a certain (pretty big!) .el file I have that works fine if I load the .el, but if I byte-compile it and load the .elc, I get immediately get a message like EMACS BUG! INVALID DATATYPE (#o 20) save your buffers and exit blah blah Further, byte-compiling this file takes a *long* time, on the order of ten minutes; it seems near the end that at least one GC happens between every two defuns compiled. Sometimes, it seems to get hung up and never complete at all. When I byte-compile this file with gnuemacs, it zips by in about 10 seconds, and the resulting .elc seems to work fine. The only thing I can imagine is that the heap size for the epoch is too small, and the heap size for the gnuemacs I was using was set large enough. I poked around, but I don't see what controls the size of the heap. Is this a reasonable hypothesis; has anyone noticed similar problems; any ideas? Thanks... Dave
