Lightning and Epoch 4.2

I just compiled epoch 4.2 (on Sparc, sunos 4.1.3, gcc 2.2.2) and it appears to go perfectly, except that Lightning doesn't work. With Lightning switched on, find-file (for example) will give an error:
Wrong Type argument: keymapp [ --- lots of stuff going off minibuffer ]
and the filename no longer autocompletes.

What's going on?
