Epoch Memory Leaks?

First, the details:

epoch 4.2 compile with gcc 2.2.2 (haven't tried 2.3.1 on it yet),
running on a SPARC 2, SunOS 4.1.1, with X11R5.

I seem to have run into a memory leak somewhere. Or maybe it is just
obscene memory usage. I don't expect to see a fix for this anytime
soon, but I figured that I would let you people know what I am seeing.

Now the story:

I run epoch all the time. More specifically, I leave it running for
as long as I am logged in (long periods of time, > 1 week to say
the least). I have no need to quit and restart epoch, since I am
using the gnuserv package with it. For the sake of background
information, I constantly run mh-e and lighbrite, plus I intermittently
run gnus. I also find myself running any number of C editing sessions
under gnuserv/epoch. What I have found is that after a longer period
of time, epoch's memory usage has climbed to between 7 and 10 MB!
This is some pretty serious memory usage.

So I guess my question is, has anyone else seen this?

Colin

I would imagine it's just what you would call obscene usage. The rest
of us wouldn't -- or at least I wouldn't. What epoch (and gnu emacs) does
is to keep all the files you ever edit in virtual memory, plus the
things in the kill ring, plus who knows what else. So it's bound to
grow over time unless you delete lots of buffers as you go along and
it's able to reuse some of that memory.

This isn't a problem on most modern desktop systems, since swap space is
usually plentiful. It is probably a bigger problem for things like
laptops with limited memory and limited disk space.
