epoch zones and mixed data documents

Hello,

I'm interested in finding out if epoch's zones
can be used to maintain mixed data type documents-
specifically latex documents and some type of 
free hand draw/sketch routine (xfig for example).

If this setup was fast enough, then along with a
pen based mouse I'd have a nice way to work sans
paper.
