I am running HP-UX 8.07 on a HP Apollo 9000/730.  When I try to build
groff-1.06 with gcc-2.3.1, I get the following error:

I have checked that the env.cc and related .h files don't use the abort
routine directly.  It appears to be used by gcc in setting up some class
virtual tables.  For example, in env.cc the following tables reference abort:
_vt$trie, _vt$general_reg, _vt$reg, _vt$node and _vt$request_or_macro.  Here
is a bit of the code for _vt$trie:
