To: bug-g++@prep.ai.mit.edu From: diamond@csl.sony.jp (Norman Diamond) Date: 1989.01.23 Trying to make the test programs for libg++, for Sun4 but not OS4, there are tons of error messages about inline functions that return large aggregates. When making exactly the same files for Sony News800, there are no error messages (after correcting a typo in test5a.cc). The results execute. Obviously there are many inline functions that return large aggregates. Should these be legal? Either yes or no, I cannot imagine why it would be different for Sun4 than for News800. -- Norman Diamond

I made G++ 1.32 on a Sun3, and did not notice rms's new inline policy for the Sun4 in GCC 1.32. I have some new code which is tested on the Sun4 which permits once again these functions to go inline. It will be in the next release. Since the Sun4 is one of my main machines, I can't live with this either! Michael
