dynamic (shared) libraries on a SPARC?

I've just compiled gcc/g++ (2.2) and libg++ (2.2).  Is it possible to
build and use dynamic libraries on a SPARC? Specifically, I'd like to
make libg++ dynamic (libg++.so.X.Y) so that my executable programs are
much smaller. Is this possible? Has anyone been successful?

I've tried compiling with -fpic to produce position-independent code
and then linked with `ld -o libg++.so.X.Y -assert pure *.o'. When
linking with such a dynamic library, the link is successful (no error
messages), but the program dumps core when I try to run it. BTW, I
don't think that I'm using GNU's assembler.

Any info appreciated!  Please email.
