Gnu ld with g++ on RS6000

One more question while I am here:

I tried to install gnu ld on my RS6000 and compiled gcc 2.3.3 with the
--with-gnu-ld option so that my C++ linking would be faster.

It doesn't seem to work for me. I get the error:

ld cannot open load script file 512

I have used LDEMULATION vanilla.

Does anyone know if ld is supposed to work on RS6000s or if perhaps I
did something stupid in the installation?
