2.7 and Vax/VMS? (not Alpha)

If I get the distribution for 2.7, will I be able to compile & run it
using 2.2.2 under VMS 5.4-2? I want to know, before I ftp the 8 MB
distribution over our slow 19.2 Kbps link, whether there is at least a
chance that it will work. Thanks.
