problem with libg++2.2

I'm having problems installing (not building) libg++.a on a Sparc 2.
It seems to be failing on the assert in Foo.cc. That is foo_main_run
builds ok, but fails on executing the first assert().

Any ideas?

Could this possibly happen because I'm using the standard Sun ld
(/usr/bin/ld) and not GNU ld? I've not had a problem with using Sun
ld before.
