Problem building libg++-2.2 on HP/UX

I am running on a PA-RISC: HP-UX stimpy A.08.07 A 9000/730

I untarred the files, typed "configure hp700" and "make". After some time,
I encountered

        rootme=`pwd` ; export rootme; CC="cc `if [ -f ${rootme}/../gcc/gcc ] ;\
        then echo -I${rootme}/../gcc/include ; \
        else echo ; fi`"; export CC; \
        ./utils/gen-params DOLLAR_IN_LABEL=1 >tmp-params.h
    nm:  dummy.o:  cannot open
    nm:  dummy.o:  cannot open
    nm failed to find FUNC in dummy.o!
    ./utils/gen-params: -1: bad number

I have gcc installed on the machine, but not in the adjacent directory; does
this matter?

I would like a solution to the problem, or alternatively, a binary of the
PA-RISC libg++.a, if anyone has a copy available by ftp.
