There is no `realclean' target in the top-level Makefile for libg++ 2.3.
(Ditto for `mostlyclean', `distclean', and `extraclean'.)  Maybe they're
not in the sub-Makefiles, either.

I suppose this is a general Cygnus complaint, not just libg++.
