Hello,
I just installed GCC 2.1 (gcc, g++) and compared stage1 with stage2 -> OK.
(configure i386-isc)
The c compiler seems to work fine -> test progs o.k., even with -posix tests.
The building of the libg++2.0 (configure i386-isc-sysv32) succeeded in making
the 'src' subdir, but failed on iostream (Version 0.7) with the following
output:
(rootme=`pwd` ; export rootme ; cd iostream ; \
make "CC=`if [ -d ${rootme}/../gcc ] ; \
then echo ${rootme}/../gcc/gcc -B${rootme}/../gcc/ ; \
else echo /usr/local/bin/gcc ; fi`" "XTRAFLAGS=`if [ -d ${rootme}/../gcc ] ; \
then echo -I${rootme}/../gcc/include ; \
else echo ; fi`" \
"AR=ar" "RANLIB=echo")
/usr/local/bin/gcc -I. -I./../g++-include -c stdstrbufs.C
Assembler: stdstrbufs.C

I remembered to have had this problem with gcc-1.40/g++1.40 when I forgot
to define -DFASCIST_ASSEMBLER to tell gcc that I'm not using gas
(I'm NOT using any GNU tools except gcc/g++).
So I recompiled gcc with -DFASCIST_ASSEMBLER on, but got the same results
with libg++.
I'm not an expert at gnu software or compiler building, but I think this
must be a specific problem with my site configuration and I don't want to
blame me when posting any news :)
SO PLEASE, if you know what I've done wrong (I already tried out various
configuration with i386*), send me a short note !
I am on a UUCP (inasys.uucp) site connected to the German UseNet
Backbone (unido), which you may reach via uunet or mcsun, but I
think our domain is already in some mapping tables in the U.S.
Thanks very much for any help
Bernd Hentig
