I am truly sorry for my posting. The problem does not
concern the GNU G++ linkage process, but the GNU G++ library
(istream and ostream to be precise). I had some difficulties getting
the linkage going, so I assumed that that was the problem. However,
when I compiled another program which did not contain any stream operations,
the program ran without problems. So I better re-check some of the
header files in g++-include (any hints appreciated BTW).

I want to apologize to those who have already spent some of their time
helping me. I'am a gnat.
