Y'all, I am trying to compile groff 1.06 with version 2.2.2 of gcc on a Sun4 running SunOS 4.1.1. My version of gcc has the included "gcc.patch" from groff put into cp-parse.y, and I did the install-fixincludes. Gcc barfs when it tries to use the fixincludes version of stdlib.h, because the arguments to the function prototypes are commented out. Observe: Making all in include Making all in libgroff gcc -v -O -I. -I. -I../include -I./../include -DHAVE_UNISTD_H=1 -DHAVE_DIRENT_H=1 -DHAVE_LIMITS_H=1 -DHAVE_SYS_DIR_H=1 -DHAVE_CC_LIMITS_H=1 -DLONG_FOR_TIME_T=1 -DHAVE_MMAP=1 -DHAVE_VFORK_H=1 -DHAVE_RENAME=1 -DHAVE_MKSTEMP=1 -DHAVE_SYS_SIGLIST=1 -DWCOREFLAG=0200 -g -c fatal.cc Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-sunos4.1/2.2.2/specs gcc version 2.2.2 /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-sunos4.1/2.2.2/cpp -lang-c++ -v -DHAVE_UNISTD_H=1 -DHAVE_DIRENT_H=1 -DHAVE_LIMITS_H=1 -DHAVE_SYS_DIR_H=1 -DHAVE_CC_LIMITS_H=1 -DLONG_FOR_TIME_T=1 -DHAVE_MMAP=1 -DHAVE_VFORK_H=1 -DHAVE_RENAME=1 -DHAVE_MKSTEMP=1 -DHAVE_SYS_SIGLIST=1 -DWCOREFLAG=0200 -I. -I. -I../include -I./../include -undef -D__GNUC__=2 -D__GNUG__=2 -D__cplusplus -Dsparc -Dsun -Dunix -D__sparc__ -D__sun__ -D__unix__ -D__sparc -D__sun -D__unix -D__OPTIMIZE__ -g fatal.cc /usr/tmp/cca16875.i GNU CPP version 2.2.2 (sparc) /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-sunos4.1/2.2.2/cc1plus /usr/tmp/cca16875.i -quiet -dumpbase fatal.cc -g -O -version -o /usr/tmp/cca16875.s GNU C++ version 2.2.2 (sparc) compiled by GNU C version 2.2.2. /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-sunos4.1/2.2.2/include/stdlib.h: In function `void fatal_error_exit ()': /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-sunos4.1/2.2.2/include/stdlib.h:26: too many arguments to function `void exit ()' fatal.cc:26: at this point in file *** Error code 1 make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `fatal.o' The offending line of stdlib.h looks like: extern void exit(/* int status */); If the "int status" is uncommented, the problem goes away. This fatal error occurs many more times with groff 1.06 -- fixincludes needs to be fixed perhaps? /*------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ /* Jeff A.
