Our system headers are not set up properly, so I have several local
versions of headers in an include directory $HOME/include. Depending
on how I specify the include path, gcc will use either my locally
defined headers or the system headers in /usr/include.
gcc -I~/include ... includes "*.h" files from /usr/include
gcc -Ifull-pathname ... includes "*.h" files from ~/include
