To whom it might concern, opening more than 20 files in MSDOS is a matter of TWO things: -You have to have the statement "FILES=<anything>20>" in your CONFIG.SYS (easy) -Your C library Must Support It !!! The default library which comes with Borland C, for example comes with a stanement "#define FOPEN_MAX 20" in it and the libraries have been compiled with that !! static struct arrays like "extern _streams[];" are statically dimensioned !!! So You have to rebuild the library. Under MSDOS, if You're using gcc You are most likely using djgpp and so you are using go32, which is responsible of the actual file writes and is compiled wed with Borland C, hence the problems. Two piece of information: - for MS-DOS related questions the djgpp list is more suitable . - Borland C/C++ ver 3.0+ comes with library sources so you can recompile library first and then go32.
