Error while building gcc 2.3.1

On a DecStation 5000/240, while building the stage 1 compiler
I get the following error:

kevins:/usr/local/gnu/gcc-2.3.1>make CC="stage1/xgcc -Bstage1/" CFLAGS="-g -O"
stage1/xgcc -Bstage1/ -c  -DIN_GCC   -g -O     -I. -I. -I./config cp-pt.c
cp-pt.c: In function `instantiate_class_template':
cp-pt.c:960: `yylval' undeclared (first use this function)
cp-pt.c:960: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
cp-pt.c:960: for each function it appears in.)
*** Error code 1


I could probably fix this myself but I wanted to report it for others.

I used "configure decstation" to set things up and then followed
the INSTALL directions.
