   VMSSERV (a list of VMS software available via anonymous ftp) lists
   prep.ai.mit.edu as a source for gcc, but I was not able to find it
   when I connected on July 11.  Is it still available?

Did you look under /u/emacs?  The vms gcc distribution was there last
time I looked.
