GCC 1.36 recognizes the undocumented compiler switch "-ftraditional".
$ cat t.c
#define XX(X) 'X'
main () { printf ("the char is '%c'\n", XX(A)); }
$ gcc -traditional t.c && a.out
the char is 'A'
$ gcc -ftraditional t.c && a.out
the char is 'X'
$
Note the omission of an error message about "-ftraditional" being
unknown in the second case.
