Errors compiling libg++ (v2.2) on Alliant FX/2800

I'm trying to build the libg++ library (version 2.2) using the gnu c++
compiler (version 2.2.2) on an Alliant FX/2800 but whenever I try to
compile any routine that has 'va_start' in it (several in iostream, more
in iostream/stdio), the compiler complains with:

warning: implicit declaration of function `__builtin_args_info'

This eventually creates a libg++ library with references to the function
__builtin_args_info which is undefined.

The va-i860.h references this function within the definition for va_start
but it is unclear as to where the function itself is defined. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
