In compiling gdb 4.4 on a vaxstation II with ultrix 2.0 I get this strange gcc error: gcc -c -g -I. -I. -I./../include -I./../readline -I./vx-share breakpoint.c make[1]: execve: /usr/local/bin/gcc: Arg list too long make[1]: *** [breakpoint.o] Error 127 make: *** [just-gdb] Error 1

But for some reason, /bin/csh takes a much longer command line. Ultrix for DecStations doesn't have this problem. Someone needs to tell DEC to fix this one. Given that, you can get gdb built by saving the "make" output into a file; the make will fail with the message you show above. Then edit the file to remove everything but the gcc command that does the link. Then get csh to execute the file by saying "source file" from csh, where file is the file you made by editing make's output. (At least, you can get gdb built if there aren't other problems). -- Joe Buck jbuck@ohm.berkeley.edu
