  Hi,

    I'm running gcc 2.1 and gdb4.6 under SunOS 4.1.2 on a
Sparcstation IPX. When trying to debug one program
that I have, I set a breakpoint at line 54 and then
run the program. When gdb encounters the breakpoint
it says it is at line 58, and the code pointer is
on line 58, but the code being executed is from line
  54.

As you can imagine, this is very confusing ! I have
been unable to isolate the problem and get it to occur
in any other programs that I have.

Does anyone know if this is a known problem in
  GCC 2.1 that has been fixed in 2.2.2 ? I don't
really want to switch compilers in the middle of a
project if I can help it, but if this is fixed in
  2.2.2, then I'll switch.

Many bugs in 2.1 are fixed in 2.2.2. You shouldn't be using an old versoin
of GCC 2, as it is in a stage of just beginning to be reliable.

But I have no idea what is happening to you. Unless you send a proper
bug report with test case, no one can know.
