There seems to be a problem with using gcc 2.3.1 on NeXTSTEP 3.0. When it attempts to compile eprintf for libgcc, it dies saying: In file included from /NextDeveloper/Headers/ansi/machine/stdarg.h:11, from /NextDeveloper/Headers/ansi/stdarg.h:7, from /NextDeveloper/Headers/ansi/stdio.h:18, from ./libgcc2.c:1155: /NextDeveloper/Headers/ansi/m68k/stdarg.h:4: unterminated string or character constant /NextDeveloper/Headers/ansi/m68k/stdarg.h:30: unbalanced `#endif' *** Exit 1 This appears to be caused by the fact that /NextDeveloper/Headers/ansi/m68k/stdarg.h uses // to begin a couple of comments, and cpp is not interpreting them as comments because it is processing a C file not objective-C or C++. A hack at a solution was to include -lang-objc in the CPP_SPEC in config/next.h. This adds -lang-objc argument to all the cpp runs, which forces cpp to work in objective-C mode. This does appear to work (at least to get gcc built) but forcing all preprocessing into objective-C mode doesn't seem to be the "right" solution. Any help would be appreciated. - |Daryll

Isn't // as the start of a comment not part of ANSI C also?
Just curious.
