My system is a 68040 NeXT running gcc 2.3.1 under NeXTSTEP 3.0.

slayer> cat test.c
enum { NUM = 5 };

int bad_array[] = { [NUM] 9 };
int good_array[] = { [5] 9 };
int another_good_array[] = { [4 + 1] 9 };

slayer> gcc -c test.c
test.c:3: non-constant array index in initializer
