When you have installed a previous release of gcc, say version 2.2.1 configured for sparc-sun-sunos4.1, and you add a new release, say version 2.3.1, configured for sun4, configure does not expand the machine/os name to a canonical form. This means that gcc -V 2.2.1 does not work to get the old compiler, as one expects. Workaround nr 1: use gcc -V 2.2.1 -b sparc-sun-sunos4.1 (lot of typing) Workaround nr 2: make a softlink from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-sunos4.1/2.2.1 to /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sun4/2.2.1 A real solution could be that a make install installs these soft links. (Or demand in documentations that for each release the same target for configure should be used. ) Klamer Klamer Schutte Tel: +31-53-892778 Fax: +31-53-340045 Faculty of electrical engineering -- University of Twente, The Netherlands preferred: klamer@mi.el.utwente.nl SMTP: klamer@utelmi01.el.utwente.nl
