Does anybody know of a way to get gcc to produce no code. Specifically gcc-1.42 on a Sun4. I know about throwing the code away (e.g. >/dev/null) - I would rather that code generation just doesn't happen. We want to do something bizarre for our first year students - running a first pass with the optimiser on to get "uninitialised variable" warnings (the first pass producing no code) and then a second pass without -O which produces code. This is so that ups doesn't deny the existence of half the variables when the students are debugging their code.
