I'am wondering if it is possible to compile executables using the i860 (DASH!860) card installed in a 386PC in our lab. I know from the documentation that gcc-1.40 and gcc-2.2.2 supports the i860 chip, so it should be possible to use gcc as a cross-compiler. The problem is, how to build executables using the i860 running under some sort of msdos-extender. Currently the system uses the so called xnix-environment, which is practically a dos-extender allowing the use of more or less SysV COFF compatible objects. The documentation is very sparse on this point, so I don't know how compatible xnix really is. Anyway, this environment doesn't allow the use of protected mode programs, so using just a modified version of djgpp and the libaries is not the solution. There exists several compilers which can produce such executables, but they are very expensive (e.g. a fortran compiler for 10000DM=$6500). If there is a solution to this problem using gcc I would very much appreciate any information about this.
