Probably because n_incomplete field is an unsigned type. If so, remove the assert. Its dead weight. This brings up a bigger subject. Quality of GNU releases. I've been experimenting recently with the -Wall flag on GNU compiler builds. Its interesting to note that many warnings are produced. What possible run time bugs are they flagging ?
